About How it got started

If you fish “Buggs Island” (John Kerr Reservoir) very often, you’ve likely seen Keith Wray from time to time. Keith averages fishing over 250 days each year, with most of those being at Kerr. He’s an excellent fisherman of all common freshwater species. He has won numerous fishing tournaments across the state each year from the 1970’s until now.  One thing that sets Keith apart from other fishermen is his willingness to share what he has learned in his many years of fishing, freely passing on this knowledge to others.

https://www.Kerrlake.proboards.com/  is a popular “Fishing board/blog”. It covers all species of fish at “Buggs Island” and offers input about other lakes and rivers too. Anyone can sign in to the forum and tell of their day on the water, or to ask others for their help on how to best find or catch the species they’re after. “Fishdoc” as Keith is known on that board, is one of the more popular “go to” guys for information.

After encouragement from those he came in contact with – Keith attended the US Coastguard’s “Captains School”, then after passing all of their tests – applied for and received their credentials as a Licensed Fishing Guide.

A day on the water with Keith will teach you new methods of fishing, areas of interest, and can provoke thought that may allow you to look at fishing in a different way or to be more successful in the future.
