Welcome to Fishdoc’s Guide Service !
I have been fishing at “Bugg’s Island” (John H. Kerr Reservoir) for over 50 years, with the last 17 of them as a US Coastguard Licensed – “Fishing Guide”.
A typical guide trip is an 8 hour day – $300 for 1 person or $400 for 2. All bait and tackle is furnished. I don’t have any way to process a credit / debit card – so all payments are in “cash”.
All you will need to bring is what you may want to eat or drink (No Alcohol), and a cooler for the fish that you may want to carry home.
Guide trips are available at “Buggs Island” for Crappie only. At Hyco and Mayo Lakes – for Crappie or Largemouth Bass, and Philpott Lake for Walleye.
My boat is an 18.5′ Alumacraft with 4 seats. I have the latest in electronics, including Garmin’s “Livescope Plus”.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, or to book a trip.

Mayo Lake is a 2,800 acre lake that helps supply power for north central North Carolina, It is the smaller of the two Person county Lakes but one that is well known for big bass and crappie. It is a deep reservoir that has a winding creek channel and several mid lake humps that make the fishing both a challenge and a rewarding experience.
Mayo has a great Park near the boat ramp. Whether you’re looking for quality fishing, camping, or a place to relax, Mayo Park may be the place for you. This 120-acre park takes pride in its family-oriented atmosphere and clean, well-maintained facilities, offering RV campsites, primitive tent sites, cabins, and tent sites with electricity. All of which are accessible by car or Mayo Park’s trail system.
Hyco Lake is a 3,750 acre reservoir that straddles Person and Caswell counties, North Carolina. It is the larger of Person Counties two lakes – Mayo being the smaller of the two.
It has a great population of Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Hybrid Stripers, and Catfish. The lake is partially heated by the Duke Energy Steam plant, located mid lake and fishing can be good all year long.
In warm weather months Hyco is the area’s main destination for fishing, boating, water skiing, and recreation. The lake was formed from the Hyco Creek and has three main tributaries; North Hyco Creek, South Hyco Creek, and Cobb’s Creek, all of which offer excellent fishing opportunities.
